Industrial output up 0.4 percent in euro area in April from March

In April this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production increased by 0.4 percent in the euro area and by 0.3 percent in the EU-27, as compared with March, while production in March had increased by 0.9 percent month on month in both zones. In April this year compared with April 2012, industrial production decreased by 0.6 percent in the euro area and by 0.8 percent in the EU-27. These figures are released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

As compared to March this year, in April the production of capital goods increased by 2.7 percent in the euro area and by 2.5 percent in the EU-27, while non-durable consumer goods rose by 0.7 percent in both zones. Meanwhile, the production of intermediate goods remained stable in the euro area and fell by 0.1 percent in the EU-27. In April this year,durable consumer goods fell by 2.7 percent in the euro area and decreased by 1.4 percent in the EU-27, while production of energy fell by 1.5 percent in both zones, all month on month.

Among the member states for which data are available, in April this year industrial production rose in 10 states and fell in 11, on month-on-month basis. The largest decreases were registered in Finland (-5.1%), the Netherlands (-4.3%) and Portugal (-3.6%), while the highest increases were in Ireland (+3.0%), France (+2.3%) and Romania (+1.9%).

As compared to the same month of 2012, in April this year production of durable goods declined by 6.2 percent in the euro area and by 4.3 percent in the EU-27, while intermediate goods fell by 2.8 percent and 2.9 percent respectively. Non-durable consumer goods rose by 1.6 percent in the euro area and by 2.1 percent in the EU-27, while production of energy decreased by 1.7 percent in the euro area and by 2.8 percent in the EU-27. The production of capital goods increased by 1.6 percent in the euro area and by 1.9 percent in the EU-27, year on year.

Among the member states for which data are available, in April this year industrial production fell in 13 states and rose in eight, on year-on-year basis. The largest decreases were registered in Finland (-10.2 %), Italy (-4.6%) and the Czech Republic (-3.4 %), while the highest increases were seen in the Romania (+12.6%), Lithuania (+5.0%) and Estonia (+2.7%).
