Indian state-run steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has ensured emergency supplies of steel electric poles to enable the fastest possible restoration of electricity distribution infrastructure in the Cyclone Fani-ravaged eastern Indian state of Odisha, company officials said on Wednesday, May 8.

The officials said that SAIL is making an all-out effort to ensure rapid supplies of parallel-beam steel electricity poles to Odisha where the cyclone has severely damaged electricity poles, disrupting power supplies to large parts of the state.

SAIL has already dispatched 500 such parallel-beam steel poles to the state since the cyclone hit the state late last week and another 5000 poles are ready for dispatch over the next few days, the officials said.

The steel company has assured the state government that it will mobilize resources from distribution centers across the country to be able to supply 15,000 electricity poles so that power distribution companies in Odisha will be able to complete reconstruction of electricity infrastructure within the shortest possible time, the officials added.
