India’s MOIL to build its second ferroalloy plant

Indian state-run company MOIL Limited (formerly known as Manganese Ore India Limited) will build a greenfield ferroalloy plant at its Gumgaon manganese ore mine, a company official said on March 14.

MOIL will invest in $22 million in the plant, which will have a capacity of 25,000 mt per year.

According to the company official, this will be MOIL’s second ferroalloy plant. The first one was built at the company’s Balaghat manganese ore mine, with a capacity of 10,000 mt per year.

The official also stated that the Gumgaon open cast manganese mine located in the western state of Maharashtra, with 4.2 million mt of reserves, will feed the new plant with 250,000 mt of manganese ore per year.

The completion of the new ferroalloy plant is scheduled for 2021.
