Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has lost a prime coking coal block as the Ministry of Coal has cancelled its allocation after the steel company failed to develop the asset, according to a ministry notification issued to SAIL.

“Very little progress has been made in development of the coal mine. And as such there is no reason why the allotment of the coal block should not be terminated,” a notification to SAIL said.

“Hence it has been decided to terminate the allotment agreement of the Sitanala coal mine in eastern Indian state of Jharkhand with effect from October 25, 2018,” the ministry notification said.
