India’s Directorate General for Trade Remedies (DGTR) has initiated antidumping investigation into imports of flat rolled products of stainless steel originating from 15 countries, an official at the Ministry of Commerce said on Tuesday, July 9, citing an official notification.
The official said that the antidumping investigation has been announced for flat rolled products of stainless steel imported from China, South Korea, European Union (EU), Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, US, Thailand, South Africa, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico, Vietnam and Malaysia.
He said that this is one of the biggest antidumping investigations for any product from the largest number of originating countries in recent years.
The products to be investigated from these countries will include hot rolled stainless steel of 304 grade of width up to 1,650 mm, cold rolled stainless steel of 600 mm and above but excepting cold rolled stainless steel of more than 125 mm for which antidumping rates had already been recommended by DGTR. The investigation will also include blade steel popularly known as razor blade steel grade used in production of razors, the official said, quoting from the DGTR notification.
The DGTR investigations is in response to complaints of dumping filed by the Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISDA), a representative body of domestic stainless steel producers, Jindal Stainless Limited, Jindal Stainless (Hissar) Limited and Jindal Stainless Steelway Limited.
In its preliminary inquiries following the lodging of the complaint of dumping, the DGTR has established “prima facie’ incidence of dumping necessitating a detailed investigation for which all trade and price data for the period April 2018 to March 2019 will be taken into consideration, the official added.
