India's crude steel production increases by 4.4 percent in April

India's crude steel production increased by 4.4 percent to 8.59 million mt in April this year, the first month of the fiscal year 2018-19, compared to the corresponding month of the previous fiscal year, according to data released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) at India's Ministry of Steel, the sole official compiler of Indian steel industry data.

According to the JPC data, domestic pig iron production in April this amounted to 800,000 mt, up 1.9 percent year on year.
