Indian steel production off target

The Indian Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation disclosed that the production levels of finished steel came in below below targets between April 2004 and January 2005. The ministry said that finished steel production missed its production target by 9.8% (3.559 million metric tons). Coal production on the other hand exceeded its target by 8.89 million metric tons, 3% higher than expectations. Cargo handling at major ports beat targets by 2.28% (8.86 million metric tons), while power generation slightly exceed its goal by 382 million units (0.1%).
