Indian steel industry grows in FY 2019, exports decline

According to the Joint Plant Committee of India, India produced 106.4 million mt of crude steel in FY 2019 ended March 31, 2019, up 3 percent compared to 102 million mt in FY 2018. Finished steel imports increased by 5 percent to 7.84 million mt while steel exports declined 34 percent to 6.36 million mt in FY 2019. Steel consumption increased by 8 percent year-on-year to 97.52 million mt in FY 2019.

The two largest domestic producers of crude steel were RINL with 10.6 percent of the total followed by 8.3 percent by SAIL.
