Indian steel imports up 11 percent in May, exports down 33 percent

Indians steel imports in May this year amounted to 620,000 mt, up 11 percent over the corresponding month of the previous year, according to data released Friday, June 22, by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) of India's Ministry of Steel.

According to the JPC, Indian steel exports in contrast fell by 33 percent year on year to 430,000 mt in May.

Production of finished steel by all domestic steel mills during the given month totaled 10.55 million mt, up 6.7 percent compared to May 2017, the JPC data showed.
