Indian steel consumption rises by eight percent in April-June quarter

Indian steel consumption during first quarter ended June 30 of the financial year 2018-19 totaled 23.42 million mt, increasing by eight percent over the corresponding period of the previous year, according to data released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) under India’s Ministry of Steel, the sole compiler of steel industry data in India.

According to the JPC, in the June quarter India’s finished steel imports increased by 10.9 percent year on year to 1.893 million mt.

However, in contrast exports of finished steel from India recorded a significant drop during the given period, falling by 33.7 percent year on year to 1.351 million mt, the JPC data showed.
