Indian state-run metallurgical and steel consultancy firm Mecon Limited has been mandated by the Ministry of Steel to prepare a technical feasibility report on proposed Greenfield steel mill in southern state of Andhra Pradesh, a ministry official said on Thursday, October 25.

He said that the technical report is to be submitted to the ‘task force’ set up by the ministry comprising representatives from the government, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), NMDC Limited, trading firm MSTC Limited and Andhra Pradesh government.

Based on the technical report, the task force will finalize the investment options for construction of the steel project which could be through joint ventures of government run companies like SAIL, RINL, NMDC or public-private ventures between any of the government companies and a private investor.

The primary element of the technical report prepared by Mecon is to seek all data from the Andhra Pradesh government relating to iron ore availability in the region and mining lease for iron ore that could be offered by the local government, the official added.
