Indian iron ore port traffic up 23 percent in H1 FY 2017-18

Iron ore traffic through all major Indian ports during the first six months (April-September) of the current financial year 2017-2018 was recorded at 21.7 million mt, up 23 percent over the corresponding period of the previous financial year, according to data sourced from Indian Port Association (IPA).

The growth in iron ore traffic at 23 percent during the period was the highest among all commodity traffic handled by Indian ports, the data revealed.

Total imports of coking coal handled by the ports was recorded at 24.78 million mt during the first half of the current financial year, marginally up by 3.31 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

The growth in iron ore traffic enabled the aggregate Indian port traffic to register a marginal growth of 3.24 percent to 326.38 million mt, against 316.14 million mt during the first six months of the previous financial year, the IPA data showed.
