The Indian government has agreed to make changes in various legislations to enable iron ore mining to resume in Goa, a Goa state government official said on Thursday, September 27.

The official said that the Ministry of Mining has already completed preparing the paper suggesting the changes that need to be made in various legislations that will enable the Goa government to legally circumvent the Supreme Court order banning all iron ore mining in the western coastal state.

In an order issued in February 2018, the apex court held that all mining lease renewals of 88 mines in Goa were illegal and directed that all mining operations be stopped with effect from March 15, 2018.
