Indian domestic steel production to reach 128 million mt by 2021

The Indian government has estimated domestic steel production will reach 128.6 million mt by 2021 and that domestic steel consumption will total 140 million mt by 2023, according to the Economic Survey placed before India’s parliament on Thursday, July 4.

The growth in domestic production will be led by the construction sector, infrastructure and automobile manufacturing, the Economic Survey noted.

According to the Survey which reviews the national economy and lays down the roadmap ahead, crude steel production during the fiscal year 2018-19 was 106.56 million mt, up 3.3 percent over the previous fiscal year.
