Indian crude steel production totals 8.62 million mt in April

India’s crude steel production in April this year remained flat at 8.62 million mt compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, according to data released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) under the Ministry of Steel and the sole official compiler of industry data.

According to the JPC, state-run Steel Authority of India Limited and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) along with private steel companies - Tata Steel, Essar Steel, JSW Limited and Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) - together accounted for 5.08 million mt of production, while 3.58 million mt were accounted for by medium-scale producers.
