According to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) is lifting the pre-shipment inspection certification (PSIC) requirements for all metal scrap from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, and US. The easing of requirements will be first rolled out to six ports and may be implemented in the other large ports in the future.

The ports designated are Chennai, Tuticorin, Kandla, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Mumbai and Krishnapatnam. The materials will be required to have the radioactive and explosives certificate and go through “radiation and explosive checks” at these ports, which have installed appropriate radiation detection equipment. Material for the other nine ports of entry approved to process scrap imports will continue to require PSIC due to technology limitations.
