India’s Directorate General for Anti Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) has commenced a review of the antidumping duty levied on flat base steel wheel imports from China, a government official said on Thursday, February 15.
The official said that the DGAD issued a formal notification earlier this month to conduct a review of the antidumping duty and the new probe will aim to examine whether imports of the products from China continue to threaten domestic manufacturers and whether the antidumping duty protection needed to be continued or not.
The DGAD has received petitions from two domestic manufacturers - Wheels India Limited and Kalyani Maxion India Limited - of flat base steel wheels used in commercial vehicles, claiming that the threat of dumping continues from China and withdrawal of the antidumping duty will lead to an increase in dumping and hence it should be reviewed and extended to project domestic manufacturers.
India’s Ministry of Finance, following antidumping investigations, levied antidumping duty on flat base steel wheels in 2013.
The imposition had been fixed at $643/mt effective for five years and hence, with its expiry and based on petitions filed by local manufacturers, the DGAD has announced a fresh review and investigations into imports from China.
