According to Mexico’s state news agency Notimex, the next Mexican government is willing to apply mirror measures on the US if it does not eliminate the tariffs imposed on imports of steel and aluminum, said Raúl Gutiérrez Muguerza, vice president of the Mexican steel association (Canacero).

Mr. Gutierrez Muguerza said that both the outgoing and the incoming governments agreed to apply mirror measures if Mexico does not obtain quotas instead of tariffs or complete elimination from the tariffs.

The Canacero vice president made it clear that the quota must be "acceptable" and above one hundred percent, which will allow Mexico to maintain the trade of steel and aluminum with the US.

Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin) president Francisco Cervantes Diaz said that the economy secretary Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal is in communication with his counterparts Wilbur Ross and the US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, which is "a good sign" for reaching an agreement, Notimex also reported.
