Hebei Steel inks steel supply deal for new Shenzhen metro line

Major Chinese steelmaker Hebei Iron and Steel Group has announced that it recently signed an agreement for the supply of 100,000 mt of steel for the construction of Line 9 of the metro system of the city of Shenzhen in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong. Hebei Steel Group signed the deal with the Shenzhen-based subsidiary of the state-owned China Railway Group. Deliveries of the initial batch of 5,000 mt of HRB400 rebar have already commenced.
 
Line 9 will be 49.7 km long and will comprise 12 stations. Construction work on the project will start at the end of 2012, while the new line is expected to open in 2016. The total volume of steel required for the new metro line is estimated at 500,000 mt.
