Hebei Province to cut 14 million mt of steel capacity in 2020

Hebei Province, China's major steelmaking production hub, will continue overcapacity cuts in 2020 amid ongoing industrial upgrading, provincial governor Xu Qin stated at a conference in Hebei on Tuesday, January 7.

In 2020, Hebei will cut 6 million mt of coal capacity and 2 million mt of coke capacity, Mr. Xu said, while it will also cut 14 million mt of steelmaking capacity.

In 2019, Hebei eliminated 14.02 million mt of steelmaking capacity, 10.06 million mt of coal capacity and 3.19 million mt of coke capacity.
