The authorities in the northeastern Chinese province of Hebei have announced their development objectives for the local steel industry.
Accordingly, the main objectives of the Hebei provincial government for the local steel industry are to strictly control steel production, curb blind expansion of production capacity and raise the production share of high-tech and high value-added products. In addition, the Hebei authorities aim to promote industrial concentration, forming at least five large-scale mills with annual outputs of more than five million mt each by the end of 2011. Furthermore, the provincial government intends to optimize product structure, to encourage independent innovation and technological development, and to eliminate 20 million mt of dated capacities in the coming three years.
