In the January-August period this year, Vietnam’s steel exports amounted to 4.4 million mt up 8.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the latest customs data. The growth rate slowed down compared to the January-July period.
In the January-August period, steel exports to major Southeast Asian countries increased, except for the Philippines which saw a 34 percent decline year on year. Meanwhile, Vietnam’s steel exports to the US continued to decline, registering a fall of 48.4 percent compared to the January-August period of last year. The decline rate was faster compared to the 42 percent year-on-year fall in the first seven months this year.
In August alone, the country’s steel exports increased by 6.4 percent month on month to 492,119 mt, while falling 17.4 percent compared to the same month of 2018.
