Global DRI output down 5.96 percent in 2015

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 4.54 million metric tons in December last year, falling by 14.8 percent year on year and down 0.81 percent month on month. 
 
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 59.38 million metric tons in 2015, decreasing by 5.96 percent compared to 2014.
 
The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in 2015. India's DRI output was 18.18 million metric tons in the given year. India was followed by Iran, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in 2015, with outputs of 14.62 million mt, 5.58 million mt and 5.39 million mt respectively.
