Australia-based iron ore producer Gindalbie Metals Limited (Gindalbie) has announced that the first train-load of iron ore from its Karara iron ore project in Western Australia's Midwest region has been dispatched, representing the first time the project's integrated mine and rail logistics chain has been used.

The ore will be temporarily stored in train cars at Narngulu, just outside Geraldton, while final completion of the Karara Export Terminal is expected to be completed within the coming weeks. The company stated that the ore will be accumulated at the Karara port storage facility and commercial shipments will start once there is sufficient ore for a full shipload.

The first production of magnetite concentrate from Karara in September will be followed by a six-month ramp-up to the stage one capacity of 10 million mt per year, consisting of 8 million mt per year of magnetite concentrate and 2 million mt per year of direct shipping ore.
