According to the information provided by the German steel federation Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (WV Stahl), in February this year the country's crude steel output amounted to 3.42 million metric tons, almost at the same levels as compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, the output volume in February this year was 34.3 percent higher than in February 2009, following an increase of 28 percent on year-on-year basis registered in January.
Meanwhile, in the first two months of this year, Germany's crude steel production reached 6.92 million metric tons, rising by 32.8 percent, as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
According to WV Stahl, the upward trend of crude steel production in recent months reflects the relatively satisfying recovery in received orders. However, the actual steel output is said to be still nine percent lower as compared to the average monthly production volume recorded in the 2000-2008 period.
On the other hand, in January this year, Germany's total hot rolled steel product output amounted to 2.83 million metric tons, up by 40.6 percent, including 1.96 million metric tons of flat steel products - up 58.1 percent, and 879,000 metric tons of long steel products - up 12.9 percent, all compared to January 2009.
