Germany posts year-on-year rise in steel output
Data from Germany's Federal Statistical Office show that the country's crude steel output rose 16.7 percent year on year to 3.87 million metric tons in August. Pig iron output increased 18.1 percent year on year to 2.54 million metric tons. Compared to previous month, August crude steel production fell 3.2 percent and pig iron production decreased 4.7 percent. Crude steel output totaled 31.20 million metric tons through the first eight months of the year, up 5 percent year on year. In addition, pig iron output amounted to 20.17 million metric tons, up 4.7 percent.
