German building permits for dwellings rise in 2009 for first time since 2006

In 2009, the first year-on-year rise in building permits for dwellings in Germany was observed since 2006. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), building permits for a total of 178,000 dwellings were granted in Germany in 2009. Compared with the corresponding period of 2008, this indicates an increase of 1.9 percent or 3,300 buildings.
