Workers at Gerdau’s São José dos Campos mill, in the city of same name in São Paulo state, went on strike last Friday, according to a local union. The workers are asking for better pay and increased meal allowance, the union said.

Local union SindMetalSJC said the strike is for an indefinite period of time. “Production will continue to be halted,” said union leader Jose Dantas Sobrinho.

The São José dos Campos mill has about 370 employees, out of which some 80 percent are on strike, according union estimates.

Gerdau said its client support is not affected due to the strike.
