Gerdau Long Steel North America announced Monday that it will be restarting shredding operations at its Wilton, Iowa steel mill after being idled for three years. The shredder--which is used to process scrap steel--will be restarted sometime in mid-2012.

In November 2011, Gerdau began updating equipment at the Wilton mill, including the installation of a new in-feed system for the existing shredder.  The facility's upgrades are expected to be completed by May 1, 2012.
