The second largest North American steel producer, Gerdau Ameristeel, has announced that it has reached an agreement with the United Steelworkers (USW) union at Whitby, its Canadian mill.
The new contract is effective from February 28, 2007 and expires on February 27, 2010.
The company's vice president of human resources, Mr. Jim Rogers, has stated that currently Gerdau Ameristeel is working to find common ground with the labor union at its three remaining facilities - at Calvert City in Kentucky, at Joliet, Illinois, and at Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
