Gerdau Ameristeel acquires North Star Steel

Gerdau Ameristeel Corp has recently announced that it signed a deal to acquire assets of North Star Steel mini mills and related facilities from Cargill for $266 million. The deal covers the four long product mini mills in St Paul, Minnesota; Wilton, Iowa; Calvert City, Kentucky and Beaumont, Texas. Moreover, the deal also covers three wire rod processing facilities in Beaumont, Texas; Carrollton, Texas and Memphis, Tennessee and the grinding ball facility in Duluth, Minnesota. The four North Star Steel mini mills producing long products have an annual production capacity of 2 million tons.
