Freight volumes on China’s railways up 7.2 percent in January-May

Chinese state-owned railway company China Railway Corporation (CRC) has announced that in May this year the overall freight volume transported on China’s railways amounted to 339 million mt, rising by 11.8 percent year on year and constituting the highest monthly volume so far in the current year.

In the January-May period this year, the freight volume transported on China’s railways totaled 1.628 billion mt, up 7.2 percent year on year.

CRC aims to achieve an overall freight volume of 3.02 billion mt in 2018, while the volume recorded in the January-May period represents 53.91 percent of this target.
