The Russian steelmaker and iron ore producer Evraz Group (Evraz) has announced that its subsidiary West-Siberian Steel Works (ZapSib) following the request of its Chinese customers has mastered the production of a new carbon steel grade alloyed with manganese for its continuous slab caster.

Accordingly, the first batch of 250 x 1,550 x 10,200 mm slabs of the new steel grade has already been already delivered to China. The steel grade in question is mainly used in machine building and in the production of different steel structures.

Since the beginning of 2009, ZapSib has developed about 20 technologies for the production of new steel grades. "The new steel grades will allow us to improve the properties of steel products in compliance with the demands of the customers, and also to considerably expand the product range and the sales markets of Evraz's companies," reads the company's statement.
