Russian mining and steelmaking company Evraz Group has announced its production results for the second quarter of the current year, stating that its crude steel production decreased by 14 percent to 3.4 million mt compared to the first quarter of this year. In the second quarter this year, the company's pig iron production decreased by 10.2 percent to 2.8 million mt, finished steel production declined by 7.5 percent to 2.04 million mt and coke production increased by 26.1 percent to 96,000 mt, all quarter on quarter.
Evraz said that the decline in production volumes was due to deconsolidation of EVRAZ Highveld Steel and Vanadium (EHSV) as well as repair and maintenance works at Russian steel mills.
According to the company's statement, in the second quarter of the current year, due to better quality of iron ore products used in EVRAZ DMZ steel mill’s pig iron production, output of pig iron and crude steel increased by nine percent and of steel products by 15 percent compared to the previous quarter. In the second quarter, production of iron pre products (sinter and pellets) in Russia fell by five percent quarter on quarter mainly due to a nine percent decrease in sinter production in EVRAZ ZSMK’s sintering plant as a result of the scheduled maintenance works at sintering machine.
