Evraz Inc. NA plans to temporarily lay off 225 employees at its Portland, Oregon spiral pipe mill due to the economic downturn, according to Raymond D. Miller, the company’s director of safety, health and employment.
Mr. Miller detailed, in a letter to the city, that the lay offs will occur over a 14-day period starting around May 25, though he did not indicate how long these employees are expected to be out of work.
This is not the first time the mill has drastically reduced its staff in recent months -- back in November, it laid off 100 employees.
The former Oregon Steel Mills Inc., which was acquired in 2007 by Russia's Evraz, converts steel coils into pipes for natural gas oil transmission lines and structural applications.
