The European Union safeguard on steel imports could undergo further changes. According to SteelOrbis sources, the European Commission has expressed its intention to introduce some changes to the regulation with reference to categories 4A and 4B, i.e., metallic coated sheets, and metallic coated sheets for the automotive industry only.

Accordingly, as of mid-January, the Commission is expected to remove the end-use procedure for category 4B. This procedure was implemented on October 1. There will also be a special adjustment for imports of South Korean HDG as some volumes were imported from South Korea under the 4A quota while they were supposed to be imported under the 4B quota. Therefore, the Commission will add 153,255 mt to South Korea’s country quota under 4A, while deducting the same volume from the country’s 4B quota to restore the balance between the two categories, SteelOrbis understands.
