Euro area industrial producer prices down by 0.6% in Feb compared to Jan

According to the report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in February this year industrial producer prices decreased by 0.6 percent both in the euro area and in the European Union member states (EU), month on month. On year-on-year basis, in February this year industrial producer prices were down by 1.3 percent in the euro area and by one percent in the EU.

In February, compared with January, prices in the energy sector were down by 2.3 percent in the euro area and by 2.4 percent in the EU. Prices of capital goods rose by 0.1 percent in both areas, month on month. Prices of non-durable goods increased by 0.2 percent in the euro area and by 0.1 percent in the EU, compared to the previous month. In the same month, durable goods advanced by 0.2 percent in the euro area and by 0.3 percent in the EU, while prices of intermediate goods decreased by 0.2 percent both in the euro area and in the EU, all on month-on-month basis.

In the given month, among the member states for which data are available, the largest month-on-month decreases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Denmark (-2.2%) and Spain and Portugal (both -1.3%), while increases were observed in Slovakia (+2.2%) and in Ireland and Cyprus (both +0.2%).

In February this year, compared with February 2019, prices in the energy sector declined by 6.5 percent in the euro area and by 5.9 percent in the EU. Prices of intermediate goods fell by 1.2 percent both in the euro area and in the EU, while prices of durable goods increased by 1.4 percent in the euro area and 1.5 percent in the EU year on year. Prices of non-durable goods rose by 2.4 percent in the euro area and by 2.7 percent in the EU, on year-on-year basis. Prices of capital goods rose by 1.2 percent in both areas, year on year.

Among member states for which data are available, the largest year-on-year increases were recorded in Romania (+3.4%), Hungary (+3.3%) and Bulgaria (+3.0%), while decreases were observed in Denmark (-5.7%), Estonia (-4.7%) and Italy (-3.8%).
