In August this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production rose by 1.4 percent in the euro area and by 1.7 percent in the EU-28, as compared with July, while industrial production in July had risen by 0.3 percent in the euro area and had fallen by 0.3 percent in the EU-28, both on month-on-month basis. In August this year compared with August last year, industrial production increased by 3.8 percent in the euro area and by 3.9 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.
As compared to July, in August this year the production of durable goods rose 1.3 percent in the euro area and by 1.2 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods remained stable in the euro area and increased by 0.4 percent in the EU-28. In August this year, production of capital goods rose by 3.1 percent in the euro area and by 3.2 percent in the EU-28, while the production of intermediate goods increased by 1.2 percent in the euro area and one percent in the EU-28, all month on month. Meanwhile, production of energy increased by 0.2 percent in the euro area and by 0.7 percent in the EU-28, month on month.
Among the member states, in August the highest month-on-month increases were registered in the Czech Republic (+14.3%), Malta (+5.4%) and Portugal (+4.7%), and the highest decreases in the Netherlands (-2.3%), Sweden (-1.8%), and France and Finland (both -0.4%).
As compared to the same month of 2016, in August this year production of durable consumer goods increased by 3.6 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-28, production of intermediate goods rose by 5.3 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-28, while production of capital goods increased by 4.9 percent in the euro area and rose by 5.5 percent in the EU-28, all year on year. In August this year, production of non-durable consumer goods increased by 2.4 percent in the euro area and moved up by 2.3 percent in the EU-28, while production of energy fell by 0.7 percent in the euro area and was down by 0.4 percent in the EU-28, both on year-on-year basis.
Among the member states for which data are available, in August the largest year-on-year increases were registered in Lithuania (+13.1%), Latvia (+12.1%) and Romania (+10.3%), while a decrease was observed in the Netherlands (-1.8%).
