In December last year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production rose by 0.4 percent in the euro area and by 0.3 percent in the EU-28, as compared with November, while industrial production in November had risen by 1.3 percent in the euro area and by 1.2 percent in the EU-28, both on month-on-month basis. In December last year compared with December 2016, industrial production increased by 5.2 percent in the euro area and by 4.8 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.
As compared to November, in December last year the production of durable goods rose by 2.7 percent in the euro area and by 2.6 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods increased by 0.7 percent in the euro area and by 0.6 percent in the EU-28. In December last year, production of capital goods fell by 1.1 percent in the euro area and by 0.5 percent in the EU-28, while the production of intermediate goods increased by 1.4 percent in the euro area and by 1.3 percent in the EU-28, all month on month. Meanwhile, production of energy increased by 1.3 percent in the euro area and fell by 0.3 percent in the EU-28, month on month.
Among the member states, in December the highest month-on-month decreases were registered in Slovakia (-2.7%), Lithuania (-2.6%) and the Czech Republic (-1.5%), and the highest increases in Romania (+3.8%) Ireland (+3.0%) and Slovenia (+2.7%).
As compared to the same month of 2016, in December 2017 production of durable consumer goods increased by 7.4 percent in the euro area and by 6.7 percent in the EU-28, production of intermediate goods rose by 6.6 percent in the euro area and 6.0 percent in the EU-28, while production of capital goods increased by 7.6 percent in the euro area and rose by 7.7 percent in the EU-28, all year on year. In December last year, production of non-durable consumer goods moved up by 3.1 percent in the euro area and up by 2.5 percent in the EU-28, while production of energy increased by 0.6 percent in the euro area and was down by 0.1 percent in the EU-28, both on year-on-year basis.
Among the member states for which data are available, in December the largest year-on-year increases were registered in Romania (+13.5%), Slovenia (+12.2%) and Sweden (+8.5%), while decreases were observed in Croatia (-2.5%), Luxembourg (-2.3%) and Denmark (-2.2%).
