Euro area industrial output down 0.4 percent in July from June

In July this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.4 percent in the euro area, while falling by 0.1 percent in the EU-28, as compared with June. Industrial production in June had increased by 1.4 percent both in the euro area and EU-28, on month-on-month basis. In July this year compared with June 2018, industrial production fell by two percent in the euro area and decreased by 1.2 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.

As compared to June, in July this year the production of capital goods increased by 1.8 percent in the euro area and by 1.5 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods decreased by 0.8 percent in the euro area, while increasing by 0.1 percent in the EU-28. In July this year, the production of energy was down by 0.7 percent in the euro area and by 1.1 percent in the EU-28, and the production of durable goods rose by 1.2 percent both in the euro area and in EU-28, all month on month. Meanwhile, the production of intermediate goods fell by 0.3 percent in the euro area and remained stable in the EU-28, month on month.

Among the member states, in July the highest month-on-month increases were registered in Croatia (4.9%), Portugal (3.6%) and Denmark (3.5%) and the highest decreases in Romania (3.3%), Estonia (2.9%) and Latvia (2.1%).

As compared to the same month of 2018, in July this year production of energy decreased by 1.4 percent in the euro area and by 1.7 percent in the EU-28. In the same month, production of intermediate goods fell by three percent in the euro area and by 2.2 percent in the EU-28, and production of capital goods moved down by 3.4 percent in the euro area and by 2.6 percent in the EU-28, all year on year. In July this year, production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 1.5 percent in the euro area and by 2.3 percent in the EU-28 and production of durable consumer goods was up by 1.8 percent both in the euro area and in EU-28, all year-on-year basis.

Among the member states for which data are available, in July the largest year-on-year decreases in industrial production were registered in Estonia (5.4%), Germany (5.3%) and Romania (5.2%), while the highest increases were observed in Hungary (8.7%), Denmark (5.1%) and Lithuania (5.1%).
