Euro area industrial output down 0.3 percent in September from August

In September this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.3 percent in the euro area and by 0.2 percent in the EU-28, as compared with August. Industrial production in August had increased by 1.1 percent in the euro area and by 0.8 percent in the EU-28, on month-on-month basis. In September this year compared with September 2017, industrial production rose by 0.9 percent in the euro area and was up by 1.1 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.

As compared to August, in September this year the production of capital goods increased by 0.3 percent in the euro area and by 0.1 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods fell by 1.3 percent both in the euro area and by one percent in the EU-28. In September this year, the production of energy was down by 1.7 percent in the euro area and by 0.9 percent in the EU-28, and the production of durable goods declined by 0.7 percent in the euro area and by 0.6 percent in the EU-28, all month on month. Meanwhile, the production of intermediate goods moved down by 0.3 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-28, month on month.

Among the member states, in September the highest month-on-month increases were registered in Denmark (2.8%), Ireland (2.2%) and the Netherlands (1.2%), and the highest decreases in Latvia (3.3%), Lithuania (3.1%) and Portugal (2.8%).

As compared to the same month of 2017, in September 2018 production of energy decreased by 1.4 percent in the euro area and declined by one percent in the EU-28. In the same month, production of intermediate goods fell by 0.3 percent in the euro area and increased by 0.2 percent in the EU-28, and production of capital goods moved up by 2.5 percent in the euro area and by 2.4 percent in the EU-28, all year on year. In September this year, production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 1.6 percent in the euro area and by 1.8 percent in the EU-28 and production of durable consumer goods was down by 2.5 percent in the euro area and fell by 1.4 percent in the EU-28, all year-on-year basis.

Among the member states for which data are available, in September the largest year-on-year increases were registered in Ireland (9.4%), Poland (5.0%) and Denmark (4.3%), while decreases were observed in Malta (5.3%), Croatia (2.6%) and the Netherlands (2.3%).
