According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in September this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased by 0.4 percent compared to August and rose by 2.6 percent compared to the same month of 2016. In August, production fell 0.2 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in September increased by 0.1 percent month on month and rose by 3.1 percent year on year. In August, production had remained stable compared to July, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in September decreased by 0.7 percent month on month and was up 3.2 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 0.1 percent from August and was up by 1.4 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction increased by 0.2 percent month on month and was up 3.7 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region remained stable month on month and rose by 0.9 percent year on year.
As compared to September last year, construction output in September this year increased by 23.8 percent in Hungary, by 18.1 percent in Poland, by 7.0 percent in Slovenia and by 6.8 percent in Sweden, while a decrease of 13.5 percent was registered in Romania, a drop of 1.4 percent was seen in the UK and a decline of 0.4 percent registered in Belgium.
As compared to August, construction output in September this year increased by 4.0 percent in Slovenia and by 1.1 percent in the Netherlands, while construction output decreased by 4.6 percent in Romania, by 3.8 percent in Hungary and by 2.4 percent in Slovakia.
