Euro area annual inflation down to 1.2% in April compared to March

Annual inflation in the euro area was 1.2 percent in April this year, down from 1.3 percent in March, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In April last year, the annual inflation rate was 1.9 percent.

Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation was 1.4 percent in April, down from 1.5 percent in March. In April 2017, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was two percent.

The lowest inflation rates in April this year were observed in Cyprus (-0.3%), Ireland (-0.1%), Portugal (0.3%), whereas the highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (4.3%), Slovakia (3.0%) and Estonia (2.9%). Compared with March, annual inflation fell in 12 member states, remained stable in one and rose in 14.
