Annual inflation in the euro area was 1.0 percent in July this year, down from 1.3 percent in June, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In July 2018, the annual inflation rate was 2.2 percent.
Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation was 1.4 percent in July, down from 1.6 percent in June. In July 2018, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was 2.2 percent.
The lowest inflation rates in July this year were observed in Portugal (-0.7%), Italy (0.3%) and Cyprus (0.1%), whereas the highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (4.1%), Hungary (3.3%), Latvia (3.0%) and Slovakia (3.0%). Compared with June, in July annual inflation fell in 15 member states, remained stable in two and rose in 11.
