EU-28 unemployment rate unchanged in September from August level

Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, has reported that in September of the current year the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the European Union member states (EU-28) was 10.1 percent, the lowest value since February 2012 and stable compared with August, while declining from 10.8 percent in September 2013. The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area was 11.5 percent in September this year, unchanged from the previous month and decreasing from 12.0 percent in September 2013.

Compared to September 2013, in September this year the unemployment rate in the EU-28 fell in 21 states, increased in six states and remained stable in Belgium.

Among the EU-28 member states, in September the lowest unemployment rates were recorded in Germany (5.0%) and Austria (5.1%), and the highest in Greece (26.4% in July 2014) and in Spain (24.0%).

Meanwhile, in September this year the unemployment rate in the United States was 5.9 percent, down from 6.1 percent in August and declining from 7.2 percent in September 2013.
