According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in July this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) increased 0.7 percent as compared to June and was down by 1.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In June, production had increased by 0.6 percent compared to the previous month
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in July this year rose 0.3 percent month on month, while decreasing by 1.2 percent compared to July 2012. In June, production had decreased by 1.2 percent compared to May, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in July increased by 1.3 percent month on month and was down one percent compared to July 2012, while civil engineering output increased by 0.5 percent from June and was down 2.3 percent as compared to July last year.
As compared to June, construction output in July increased in Romania by 8.6 percent, in Portugal by 5.1 percent, in Poland by 5.0 percent and in the Czech Republic by 4.9 percent, while a decrease of 4.1 percent was registered in Sweden, a decline of 1.6 percent was recorded both in Spain and Hungary, and a decrease of 0.5 percent was recorded in Slovenia.
