In February this year, new car registrations totaled 1,078,503 units in the European Union (EU), increasing 2.2 percent year on year, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).
Among the major markets, France (-2.9%), Germany (-2.6%) and the UK (-0.3%) recorded decreases in new car registrations on year-on-year basis, partially due to the fact that February 2017 had one working day less. Only Italy (+6.2%) and Spain (+0.2%) saw increases in new car registrations on year-on-year basis.
Meanwhile, in the January-February period new passenger car registrations in the EU increased to 2.25 million units, up 6.2 percent year on year. In this period, new passenger car registrations increased by 8.1 percent in Italy, by 4.8 percent in Spain, by 3.5 percent in Germany, by 3.2 percent in France and were up by 1.8 percent in the UK, all year-on-year basis.
