EU flat imports threaten Mexican market

As reported by Reuters, Mexican steelmakers complain about the excessive increase of flat imports from EU. This year's figures show a tonnage of 162,502tons of flat steel imports for the period of January – April whereas figures of 2001 for the same period were 46,219tons. The entire European flat imports in 2001 were 147,609 tons. As there is a massive increase in the flat imports from the EU , National Steel Chamber warned that if dumping continues they will have to ask authorities to take measures to protect the domestic market. Mexico's national production for Q1 shrank 12% due to this situation.
