According to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in February this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) fell by 2.9 percent month on month and was down 10.2 percent compared to February 2009. In January, the production figure had decreased by 1.1 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.
In the EU, building construction in February dropped 2.7 percent month on month and was down 10.4 percent compared to February 2009, while civil engineering declined by 3.4 percent over January and was down 5.9 percent year on year.
As compared to January, construction output in February rose in Hungary by six percent, in Portugal by 1.4 percent and in Germany by one percent, while month-on-month decreases of 13.8 percent, 9.2 percent and six percent respectively were registered in Romania, Slovenia and Spain.
