Employment in Turkish basic metal industry up 7.1 percent in Q4

Employment in general industry in Turkey in the fourth quarter of 2011 grew five percent year on year and was up 0.8 percent over the previous quarter, according to information provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
 
According to TUIK data, in 2011 the general unemployment rate in Turkey was 9.8 percent, falling 2.1 points compared to the previous year.
 
Meanwhile, in the fourth quarter last year employment in Turkey's basic metal industry increased 7.1 percent compared to the same period last year and was up 1.9 percent quarter on quarter. Employment in manufacture of articles of steel, excluding machinery and parts, on the other hand, rose 5.1 percent year on year and 1.2 percent quarter on quarter.
